Course Description: As school and teacher leaders, we can support and sustain high quality teaching by providing teachers with specific, results-oriented feedback. To do so, we must be able to recognize and name what constitutes excellence in teacher performance in a range of areas, including classroom management, lesson planning, and delivery of instruction. This course will build our capacity to identify what makes a difference to students and their learning.

Description: The basal texts, What Works in Schools: Translating Research into Action and Classroom Instruction that Works, offer a meta-analysis of the research supporting strategies that improve classroomachievement. Students taking Technology Supporting Effective Classroom Instruction will not only look at this research but also the technology that can be used to implement these proven strategies. Using word processing applications; spreadsheet software; organizing and brainstorming software; multi-media; data collection tools: web resources and communication software, the students will effectively incorporate technology into their own curriculum. They will learn the why and how of using these modern technological tools to transform and energize their practice while successfully supporting the identified best practices. The course will help them to use technology to practice concepts, engage in higher-order thinking, and problem solve - all lifelong skills and knowledge.

Description: Educators of students Grades 3-12 will improve their abilities to recognize and differentiate for a full range of students. Current research will be used to understand the variety of general education students including those with special needs and those who are gifted and talented. Participants will learn how to create optimum conditions to move these students ahead. They will learn to make management decisions and to maximize student learning, and make effective use of teacher time! A number of lesson plans will be developed by students and presented to the class. A variety of curricula will be examined.

Description: This course seeks to provide a firm basis in special education for regular classroom teachers. Teachers are bombarded with SPED terminology and references to SPED Regulations and Law. Regular classroom teachers are also requested to accommodate special education students in general education curricula. This course will clarify both terminology issues and pertinent law/regulation issues while also connecting this knowledge to promising practices within the classroom. Differentiated instruction strategies and co-teaching models will be presented and discussed.

Description: Technology affects not only the content of social studies, but also how social studies is taught. Through technology, both skills and content can be presented in ways impossible for the textbook-only classroom. In Technology and Social Studies, students will experience the many uses of instructional technology including simulations, databases, desktop publishing, presentations, and interactive multimedia. An appropriate infusion of technology in social studies, following the NCSS’s Technology Position Statement and Guidelines, will be discussed and applied to district curriculum. Technology-enhanced experiences will address both the social studies standards and the technology standards. Using the course text, Digital Age, Technology-Based K-12 Lesson Plans for Social Studies, a NCSS publication edited by Linda Bennett and Michael J. Berson, technology-based K-12 social studies lesson plans will be studied and used as models. Students will access digital archives; create PowerPoint presentations that aid instruction of a particular social studies lesson; generate spreadsheets that help illustrate significant social studies statistical data; use the Internet to explore multiple perspectives and contexts beyond the textbook; enhance citizenship education by encouraging inquiry, perspective taking and meaning making; and select and evaluate various social studies software. Technology and Social Studies will offer technological experiences that have the potential to enliven and enrich the students’ understanding of the world around them.

Description: This course, formerly untitled "Understanding Teaching I, is a course that focuses on improving student learning and achievement by building capacity in three major areas:
*Teacher's use of a varied and extensive professional knowledge base about teaching.
*Students' and teachers' beliefs about their own ability to learn.
*Schools and school systems' ability to create and sustain professional communities characterized by shared goals, collaborative work, and shared accountability.
The course is practical interactive; it is specifically designed to support collaboration, to build upon the existing skills and knowledge of each group, and to model the ideas being presented. In addition to completing assigned readings in preparation for each course meeting, participants conduct and write up a case study and analysis on their efforts to help an under-performing student. They also carry out and report on the results of experiments in planning and in expanding their repertoire of instructional and management strategies.

Description: To provide the participant with an overview of the compliance test "ParaPro" approved by the Department of Education. To provide the participant with test taking techniques that will facilitate the demonstration of their knowledge in the domains of mathematics, literacy, and instruction.
This one day training should not be selected unless an individual believes they have adequate knowledge to be successful on a basic test of proficiency in mathematics, literacy, and instruction. This training will provide technical reveiw of testing techniques and provide test practice to insure ultimate success on the "ParaPro" compliance test.

Description: This full one day workshop will provide participants with information that will increase grant funding for schools and school districts. The workshop will cover organizing
and writing DOE entitlement grants, DOE competitive grants, Federal competitive grants and private foundation grants. How and where to obtain source information on grants will be reviewed. Items such as conducting a comprehensive needs assessment, writing sound goals and objectives, creating a budget and packaging the grant are covered.
